Because I don’t get to travel as often as I would like, I feed my wanderlust by always thinking ahead and planning the when, what, and wheres of my next adventure. Here at some of the top destinations on my travel wishlist for 2016!
When it comes to selecting where I want to go next, it’s usually a purely emotional decision. I’ll see a picture or hear someone recounting a story about time spent there, and that’s pretty much how Lisbon found its way to my attention. I can easily get caught up scrolling through pictures hashtagged #lisbon or #lisboa and after one Google search, I’m lost in the black hole called the internet reading article after article about this seemingly beautiful city.
I lived in Boston for a year and a half and if I had to rate my experience there on a scale from 1 to 10, I would give it a 3. Yes, a 3. I just did not like it. As hard as I tried (or thought I tried), the city and I never clicked. So I packed my bags and came back home to California but sometimes I look back and ask myself “Sanura, did you really try to make Boston work?” If I answered myself honestly the answer would probably be I could’ve tried a little harder but hey, what’s done is done. Nonetheless, I acknowledge that the city holds a lot of history, good food, and some good friends I’d like to see again, so 2016 may witness my triumphant return to Beantown.
I love DC! It’s a city I instantly clicked with the first time I visited back in 2013 and my attachment was further solidified after visiting last month. I’m already planning to return next spring for D.C.’s Cherry Blossom Festival held yearly in the months of March and April. Between the beauty of the cherry blossom trees, strolling the national mall and getting lost in all of the Smithsonian museums, I may never come home.
NEW YORK, NY
Part of me is slightly afraid to visit New York because I’m 97% sure I’m going to want to send for my belongings and stay there permanently. I don’t quite know why, I just have a feeling. I’ve heard the good, the bad and the ugly about New York, so I don’t quite know what’s in store but I’m ready for whatever it has to offer plus a Broadway show or two..
As you may or may not know by now (read here), I love Paris and it is a city that I would love to get to know intimately. The first time I visited, I felt as if I only scraped the surface. I saw a lot, but I want to experience much more. I saw the outside of the Louvre but I didn’t go inside and I visited the Eiffel Tower but I didn’t go up to the top. I’m sure the more experienced traveler would say don’t bother, or do this instead, but I want to experience it all.
I was (and still am) hoping to make it to Tulum, Mexico to celebrate my 30th birthday but between the holidays and the birthday party I’m throwing myself, something has to give ($$$) in the month of December. So I’m moving this trip into 2016 and it WILL HAPPEN! Every picture I see from Tulum takes my breath away. As eager as I am to go as soon as possible, I’m not too disappointed in having to wait. I would love to swim in the cenotes but first I need to learn how to swim LOL. I am scheduled to start lessons this coming January so by time I go you won’t be able to tell me from the fishes…hopefully!
By the end of 2016 I hope I will have crossed each and every one of these destinations off my list. With some careful planning I’m pretty sure I can pull it off, working a 9-5 and all! Be sure to share your 2016 travel wish list with me in the comments below!
